'Royalty Free', 'PRO-free' and 'PRO' Tracks

The term “Royalty Free” originally meant buying a one-time license for a track (a “sync fee”) for an agreed upon amount of time, with no further financial obligations to a PRO (Performance Rights Organization).

The term however is increasingly used in tricky, convoluted ways by various music libraries around the world, introducing much confusion. Sometimes in fact, Royalty Free can now mean needing pay further license fees with PROs for different usages in certain countries.
