Soundtaxi's Royalty Free Music

Royalty Free Music

Royalty Free Music means, in its original sense, a one time synch fee. You pay for it only once, and it can stay in your project forever.
Often, however, the term is now used with a different meanings. The same applies to Soundtaxi: We use the term "Royalty Free Music" for musical works that are not registered with any Performance Rights Organization (PRO) like GEMA, PRS, ASCAP, BMI, etc. (a better term for such music is "Non-PRO Music").

Soundtaxi's Production Music Library provides different types of musical works:

Non-PRO music:
The music is free from claims or rights of any PRO. If you use Non-PRO music, it means you are not responsible for paying performance or mechanical royalties (fees) to any PRO that collects royalties for music. You can easily browse only Non-PRO music on our website. Simply click the 'Non-PRO' option in the search filter and your search results will be updated.

PRO registered music:
These songs are registered with a PRO and may require additional licensing and licensing fees from the PRO. These additional fees may include back end royalties depending on region and use.
PROs in Europe (GEMA, SUISA, SACEM, SIAE, etc.) have different regulations regarding the collection of royalties than do the PROs in the US and Canada (BMI, ASCAP, SOCAN). Some PROs consider telephone music-on-hold, or videos published on your own website, to be a ‚broadcast‘, while - others do not. If you are unsure whether your project falls under the scope of public performance / broadcast, please contact your local PRO and check with them what their policies are.
