Functionality

Did you know that many tracks in our library include multiple versions? These are different edits of the track included as a package when you license a song. A triangle icon by the song title indicates that a given track has multiple versions. Clicking on the triangle will show all available versions.

As mentioned above, we offer a "mp3 preview" download of any song for account holders. Clicking on any song title will bring you to a "download mp3" link on the next page. This is an mp3 quality copy of the main, full version of the song. If you need another version of the song (for example for layout purposes) please contact us and we'll send that to you.

Locating the appropriate track for your project can be challenging. Our site offers multi-layered filtering functionality. This means you can simultaneously cross search with multiple parameters, for instance: genre, mood, tempo, instrument type, artist, length, popularity, etc. You can easily search for this month's best-selling, heroic sounding, orchestral corporate song. Using this functionality can successfully narrow your search results and reduce your search times.

the value-added tax does not apply and prices are quoted without value-added tax.
You can verify the validity of your VAT number yourself at EU’s official VIES.

I live in the European Union. How can I make sure my VAT ID number appears on my invoice?

When you create your Soundtaxi account, you will be prompted to enter your VAT number (including country code).
Once your VAT number is verified, it will be displayed on each invoice for your licenses.
If you think you’ve incorrectly been charged VAT, please contact our billing team.

Youtube copyright notice

I have a valid license from Soundtaxi. Why did I receive a copyright claim from 'Adrev on behalf of Soundtaxi' on my YouTube account?

We use the Youtube partner Adrev to manage the use of our music on YouTube and to track unauthorized use. If you have received a copyright notice from Adrev, this does not mean that copyrights have been infringed, it is simply a notice that YouTube has detected registered content within the video, and that further information/action is required.

Just send us the link to your video - together with the order number - and we’ll clear the claim ASAP.

I received a notice from YouTube that the music I licensed from Soundtaxi belongs to a third party. What do I do?

Youtube Content ID is not perfect! Sometimes, classical music is incorrectly identified by YouTube as being in violation as there are many versions, and therefore masters of these tunes. Rarely this happens with non-classical music.

If you receive such a notice, simply respond with a copy of your license from Soundtaxi, and violation will be dismissed. If you need further assistance, contact us and we will take care.

What are 'PRO-free' and 'PRO' Tracks?

Soundtaxi's Production Music Library provides different types of musical works

  • PRO-free (aka Royalty Free Music)
This means that the song is not registered with a Performance Rights Organization (PRO) like GEMA, PRS, ASCAP, BMI, etc. If you use music described as PRO-free it means you are not responsible for paying performance or mechanical royalties (fees) to any PRO that collects royalties for music. This is also commonly referred to as “royalty-free music”.

To make certain you won’t have to pay any back end royalties to the composers (i.e. percentages of revenue generated by monetizing your YouTube videos), make sure you are selecting PRO-free music in your searches.

You can easily Search or Browse only PRO-free music on our website. Simply click the 'PRO-free' option in the search filter and your search results will be updated to show only completely Royalty Free Music.

  • PRO-tracks
This means that the music composer/publisher is a member of a Performance Rights Organization (PRO), that administers the performance rights and sometimes also the mechanical rights.

These tracks may require additional licensing and licensing fees from the PRO. These additional fees may include back end royalties depending on region and use. If you are unsure, contact the PRO as listed in the song description.

PROs in Europe (GEMA, SUISA, SACEM, SIAE, etc.) have different regulations regarding the collection of royalties than do the PROs in the US and Canada (BMI, ASCAP, SOCAN).

Some PROs consider telephone music-on-hold, or videos published on your own website, to be a ‚broadcast‘, while - others do not.

If you are unsure whether your project falls under the scope of public performance / broadcast, please contact your local PRO and check with them what their policies are.

  • GEMA*
Some songs are additionally indicated by an asterisk (*). These songs are completley royalty free ('PRO-free') for advertising purposes such as Promotional Trailers, Product advertisements, Online Campaigns, etc.

TV/Radio broadcasters usually pay a fixed amount to a PRO for a license to broadcast shows with music. In this case, there is no additional cost for you, the producer. All you need to do is to fill out cue sheets.

Social network and video-sharing websites like Youtube, Facebook, Vimeo are responsible for any royalties due and already have performance licenses from the PRO in their country. There is no additional cost for you - unless you are the website operator.

FAQ

Can I use Soundtaxi's music as theme music and/or as channel identifications and sound logos?

Yes, but this type of usage requires a special license so we can fairly compensate our composers. For more information, please contact us.

Are there restrictions on how I use music?

Yes. A license permits usage of the music for yourself, your clients or your employer, specific to the project for which the license was granted. Music licensed or downloaded from Soundtaxi may not be sold by itself, transferred, bartered, traded, shared, leased, or given away to any other party and the license may not be subleased to a third party. You may not market the music as your own. You may not alter or “remix” the music and distribute it as your own. You may not alter or retitle the song, or its creative credits to be marketed or sold as the original work of any other person or entity.

For further information please check our Terms of Use.

I bought a music loop but it doesn’t loop seamlessly after converting to MP3

Converting a loop to MP3 format may affect seamless loop playback. Converting to MP3 format introduces a tiny bit of silence at the beginning and end of a file. This slightly modifies the start and end time of the original loop.

Can I use the music before you receive my payment?

A license isn't valid until payment has been received.

Does the music I buy belong to me?

No. You do not actually own the music. The copyright to the music remains the property of the composer. Purchasing a license allows you to use the music for the purpose(s) stated in your license agreement. It does not transfer copyright ownership to you or your client.

Can I use your music on YouTube, Vimeo and other similar video hosting-sites?

As long as you have purchased a license that contains online usage, yes you may.
All online usage licenses also include YouTube monetizing.

Do I need to credit the composer?

When musical works are used in a television or film production, you should give on-screen credit to the artist as follows: Soundtaxi, artist, title.

You must give similar attribution to the artist for every other use of musical works, except where technological constraints make it unreasonable to give such attribution, or unless applicable law permits otherwise, or where such attribution is not in line with the industry standard.

For YouTube, credits should appear in the format: Composer name, www.Soundtaxi.com in the description text.

Do I need a cue sheet?

You are required to fill out a cue sheet if you are using PRO registered music for television or any commercial film (whether studio backed or independently produced).

Contact us if you need more information.

What is Royalty Free Music?

Royalty free music means that performance royalties (sometimes referred to as “back end”) are not paid for commercial use of the music. Sometimes, songs are registered with a PRO (Performance Rights Organization) like ASCAP, BMI, or GEMA. This ensures that artists, writers and rights holders are paid a royalty on any qualifying performance of a song (radio play, use in television, advertisements, etc.).

The Royalty Free Music in Soundtaxi’s library, means the artist/composer has chosen not to register the track with a PRO. Therefore, the individual licensing the music is not responsible for paying royalties. Under each song title in our catalog, tracks are either tagged ‘PRO-free’ (meaning it is royalty-free), or it will list the PRO the track is registered with (meaning some royalties may apply depending on use).

What is Production Music?

Production Music (sometimes referred to as stock music) simply refers to a library of music produced, with the intention of being used in some multi-media capacity. This differs from music produced by performing artists making albums and singles. Soundtaxi is a Production Music library, a provider of original tailor-made compositions, and we license albums and singles of select artists.

What sets Soundtaxi apart is that the vast majority of our library is unique to Soundtaxi. Unlike other stock music/production libraries that tend to offer the exact same tracks their competitors do. Yeah…we don’t get it either.

What is the difference between Royalty Free Music and Production Music?

These terms are often used interchangeably in the industry, however this isn’t actually accurate. Our customers should pay attention to the information directly below the song title while navigating our production library. Under the song title, you will see an information field that will say either ‘PRO-free’ (meaning this track in the production library is royalty free) or will list the PRO the song is registered with (meaning you may be responsible for royalties depending on use).

What does the term 'Ad Budget' mean?

An 'Ad budget' or 'Advertising budget' is the amount a company pays to air project, such as through pre-roll ads or media buys.
